My 21st

As some of you may know I recently (kinda, December 1st) turned 21. I debated internally whether I should write a post about it but then I thought, why not? It’s going to be a post of posterity that I can look back on when I turn 30😛

It is no secret that I like to travel and explore and I decided that I definitely wanted to go on holiday for my birthday. My first though was Amsterdam but upon seeking advice from friends I changed my mind. With hindsight I’m so glad that I didn’t go and to be honest I’ll probably go sometime in the not too distant future. For me it just wasn’t the place that I wanted to spend my 21st.

The next option was Lisbon, Portugal and I’m so happy I went! A special shout out to Vigi for coming with me❤ , I couldn’t have asked for a better companion. My good friend Ephie suggested using ‘Airbnb’ .For those who don’t know they’re a company that allows people to stay in everyday apartments/houses  and the like rather than staying in a hotel. The rationale behind it is that you can stay in a different place which is tailored to provide you with a much more unique experience and it works out significantly cheaper than a hotel. I won’t lie, I was very skeptical. I mean, with a hotel you know what you’re getting, right? I’m glad I took her advice though because I had a great time and the place we found was really nice. We met some pretty cool people and it was nice to just relax. I’m going to post a few of my holiday pictures below.

I hope you got a bit of an idea as to how my holiday went. By the time my birthday came I was feeling very thoughtful and it felt like I had grown up overnight as dramatic as it sounds. Maybe, just maybe I need to start taking my life more seriously. University provides a great bubble away from reality but one day that bubble will be popped and I’ll have to think about what exactly I want to do with my life.  It’s weird because there were quite a few things I wanted to achieve before my birthday and it’s safe to say that they’re still yet to be fulfilled. Some were within my control and some were not. It took every fibre of my being and a large dose of prayer not to feel discouraged the day before my birthday.I just had to put my big girl pants on and focus on the positives and if there’s one thing I’m good at doing it’s putting on  a very big smile and just getting on with it😉

Later on in the week I had my birthday dinner which was great and it was lovely spending it with those I love. All in all I’ve had a pretty good start and I cannot wait to see what this new birthday year will bring!
